She mentioned that her illness contributed to her slower performance, but she believes she should have achieved a significantly better time.
“I understand that competing while on antibiotics isn’t ideal, which is why I didn’t anticipate any miraculous results,” she remarked.
“The race structure made it impossible for me to stop, even when I was feeling quite unwell, so I focused on just pushing through. I attempted to zone out and endure. That’s what I did, and now I feel a bit shaky.”
“What concerns me is that I didn’t feel like my usual self while running. I’m worried that it could impact my confidence [for the London Olympics].”
Nevertheless, the 38-year-old maintains that her complete attention is on the Games and plans to use the upcoming races to bolster her confidence heading into August.
“I have no intention of giving up,” she stated.
“I feel the need to compete and rediscover my form. The 10km races I have, and possibly a half marathon, will serve as preparation for the [Olympic marathon].
“These aren’t races focused on achieving my fastest times in isolation. However, I still want to feel strong and good when I go out there.”
