Following the most successful season of his career, Tua Tagovailoa will be remaining with the Miami Dolphins.
He and the Dolphins have reportedly finalized a four-year contract worth $212.4 million, with $167 million of that guaranteed.
The total of $212.4 million ranks as the 10th largest in NFL history and marks the highest amount over a four-year period in the league’s history.

With an average salary of $53.1 million per year, Tagovailoa’s contract ranks third in NFL history, surpassed only by Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.
Since being selected fifth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft from Alabama, Tagovailoa has been a subject of debate. He experienced two confirmed concussions in the 2023 season—one that led to a significant change in the league’s concussion protocols due to the alarming nature of the incident. Just days prior, he showed signs of dizziness and fell to the ground, but still played in the following Thursday night game. The NFL determined he was not concussed during the initial incident.
Later in the season, however, he did sustain a concussion, which forced him to remain in the game against the Green Bay Packers.
Concerns about Tagovailoa’s long-term career have lingered, with many speculating if he might be only one hit away from an unexpected end to his career. He even expressed thoughts of retirement after the troubling events of the 2023 season.

Despite earlier injuries, Tagovailoa played all 17 games last season for the first time and achieved personal bests in passing yards (an NFL-leading 4,624), touchdown passes (29), completion rate (69.3%), and total wins (11).
The Dolphins faced heartbreak, losing the AFC East title at home in Week 18 against the Buffalo Bills, and subsequently faced the Kansas City Chiefs in frigid conditions, where they fell 26-7 while the Chiefs advanced to secure their second consecutive Super Bowl victory.

Tagovailoa has joined the ranks of only seven quarterbacks to achieve an average annual salary exceeding $50 million, following an impressive list that includes Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert, Jared Goff, Lawrence, and Burrow.
Throughout his career (53 games, 51 starts), he has maintained a 66.9% completion rate while amassing 12,639 yards and 81 touchdowns, achieving a 32-19 win-loss record.
