Alfie Hewett, the Wimbledon singles champion, is set to compete for gold in Paris after being named in a six-player wheelchair tennis squad for ParalympicsGB for the 2024 Games.
At 26 years old, Hewett is a three-time silver medallist from the Paralympics, having finished as a runner-up in men’s singles and doubles at Rio 2016, and in doubles at Tokyo 2021.
This is the only major title that has eluded him so far.
Gordon Reid, who has claimed 21 Grand Slam titles as Hewett’s partner in doubles, will join him, along with Ben Bartram and Dahnon Ward, for the men’s singles and doubles events at Roland Garros.
Hewett is heading to France on a wave of success after securing his first Wimbledon singles title, which completes his career Grand Slam; he and Reid also won the doubles title at SW19 for the sixth time.
Completing the team are Lucy Shuker and Andy Lapthorne, selected for the women’s wheelchair and quad wheelchair events respectively.
Shuker, a three-time medallist in doubles, will be competing in her fifth Paralympic Games at the age of 44.

The Tokyo 2020 Games, which were postponed to 2021, saw ParalympicsGB achieve great success, securing 124 medals across 18 different sports.
The wheelchair tennis tournaments in Paris will take place from 30 August to 7 September.
