Rapper Flavor Flav shared his experience of becoming a sponsor and hype man for the U.S. women’s water polo team at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
As the games kick off this week, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee joined the team in Paris, aiming to help the U.S. secure its fourth gold medal in the sport. His trip to France follows a five-year sponsorship agreement made earlier this year.
In a press conference, Flavor Flav explained how he found his calling in this role after being inspired by a story from one of the players.
“The journey started when Maggie Steffens shared her story,” he mentioned. “My manager introduced me to it, and as I read it, I thought, ‘I would love to step in and support these girls.’
“These girls are on a mission, and it’s an incredible one,” he added.

“Flavor Flav was captivated by that and he commented ‘girl dad,’ which was pretty cool,” Steffens stated. “Since then, he reached out, and it’s been a wonderful blessing.”
“He exudes great energy and has been pivotal in bringing attention back to our team.”
Fully embracing his new role, Flavor Flav even practiced in the pool and scored a goal against goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson, whom he praised for being an inspiration to young black athletes in the sport.
“My primary goal is to hype this team up for that fourth gold medal,” he declared. “I’m thrilled to be part of this journey. I also want to express my gratitude to the girls for welcoming my sponsorship with open arms.”
