Celtic handed Chelsea a 4-1 loss in their pre-season friendly held at Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana.

The Scottish Premiership champions opened the scoring with a composed finish from Matt O’Riley, who converted Greg Taylor’s assist, before O’Riley set up Kyogo Furuhashi to extend their lead prior to half-time.

Despite Chelsea controlling more of the ball and generating numerous shots on goal, Celtic’s new goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel delivered a stellar performance, thwarting the Premier League side’s attempts to stage a comeback.

Celtic increased their lead in the 76th minute, with Luis Palma taking advantage of a defensive blunder involving Robert Sanchez and Benoit Badiashile to score their third goal.

Three minutes later, Palma turned provider again as Mikey Johnston found the net with a shot that slipped under Sanchez, embellishing the score for Celtic.

Christopher Nkunku of Chelsea scored a late penalty to give the Blues a consolation goal against Celtic’s substitute goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo.

This victory on Saturday allowed Celtic to follow up their recent triumph over Manchester City, concluding their US tour with another success against Premier League competition.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have yet to secure a win under new manager Enzo Maresca, who took over from Leicester City in June.

They managed only a draw against League One newcomers Wrexham earlier in the week and will face Mexican team Club America in their next friendly.
