Chelsea has reached agreements in principle to acquire Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen and Boca Juniors defender Aaron Anselmino.

Jorgensen, aged 22, is set to undergo a medical examination after a fee of £20.7 million was finalized, with plans for him to sign a seven-year deal lasting until 2031.

The Denmark Under-21 international was a key target for new manager Enzo Maresca, who seeks an extra goalkeeper skilled at playing the ball effectively with his feet.

While Jorgensen aims to become the club’s primary choice, his signing raises questions about Djordje Petrovic’s future, especially since the Serbian goalkeeper stepped in as first choice last season when Robert Sanchez was injured.

Spanish goalkeeper Sanchez commented on the increased competition following his appearance in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Wrexham during their opening pre-season match.

“You never know, but right now I am putting in the hard work,” said the 26-year-old former Brighton keeper. “Another goalkeeper? I am aware of what I can contribute to the team, what I am capable of, and I have confidence in myself.”
