MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend indicated that her time working for her former boss, Vice President Kamala Harris, was less than favorable.
Having served as Harris’s chief spokesperson and senior advisor prior to her move to MSNBC in 2022, Sanders-Townsend took part in a discussion with fellow MSNBC host Jen Psaki, a fellow Biden administration alum, focusing on the criticisms aimed at the newly presumptive Democratic nominee and her response to them.
“Being the first comes with unique challenges,” Sanders-Townsend started Thursday. “Whether you are the first woman, the first person of color, or something else entirely, people often find it difficult to navigate this new reality. Unfortunately, this sometimes leads to the use of racist and sexist stereotypes and tropes.”

The liberal MSNBC host then shifted the conversation to her own experiences while working with Harris.
“I found it quite challenging when I began working for her since I had never worked for a woman in such a high-profile role before; all my previous roles had been under men,” Sanders-Townsend shared with Psaki.
She added, “There was a moment when I told her, ‘Ma’am, you might just be the last woman I work for because this is a lot to handle here.'”
“That’s quite a story,” Psaki said with a laugh.

“However, she was always conscious of the criticism directed at her,” Sanders-Townsend noted. “During my tenure, we never concealed it from her. It did not deter her, but I believe it’s crucial for any candidate or leader to acknowledge the criticism they face.”
“When you’re unaware, the last thing you want is for your candidate, the vice president of the United States, to be caught off guard by a commentator saying something and having to respond with, ‘Well, we talked about this just this morning at 10 a.m.,'” she added.
“Absolutely,” Psaki concurred. “It’s essential for them to stay informed, which is a fascinating aspect of how they react to it.”
