- Fabio Carvalho joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2022 but hasn’t yet made a significant impact
- The 21-year-old spent the previous season on loan at RB Leipzig and Hull
- Arne Slot has been guiding Carvalho during training sessions
Fabio Carvalho is determined to demonstrate to Liverpool’s new manager Arne Slot that he deserves to remain at Anfield this season amidst a competitive group of skilled attackers.
The Portugal-born talent joined from Fulham in 2022 and had a loan spell last season at RB Leipzig and Hull City, where he performed notably after a challenging time in Germany and believes he can realize his potential at Liverpool.
At the start of pre-season, Slot shared his thoughts with Carvalho, suggesting that he views him primarily as a winger, despite the player’s conviction that he excels as a No. 10.
The Dutch coach has dedicated time to instructing Carvalho on the practice field, providing him with tailored guidance.
Carvalho shared: ‘We discussed my position, and he encouraged me to focus on the wing, although I feel my strongest role is as a No. 10. I’m committed to following his guidance and putting in maximum effort for him.

Fabio Carvalho insists he is ready to prove to Liverpool boss Arne Slot that he is good enough

Slot has been spending time tutoring Carvalho on the training pitch with detailed instructions
‘He’s giving me good instructions and motivating me a lot in training, instilling confidence in me. We’ve had several discussions (about the future) that I won’t delve into, but he wants me to focus and work hard to see where that leads.
Carvalho’s performances have attracted interest from multiple clubs this summer, with a potential sale more likely than another loan.
His former club Fulham, as well as Leicester and Southampton, have shown interest, along with several clubs from Europe.
Reflecting on his loan spells, Carvalho noted: ‘It was vital; I needed minutes on the pitch, and I felt content when I was playing regularly. Every player desires to participate week in and week out, and I believe I showcased my best self during that time.
‘That’s what it’s all about—not just for me but for everyone involved. This pre-season presents excellent opportunities for young talents, including myself. It’s a moment for everyone to assert themselves and make an impression.’
Following a friendly victory over Real Betis, Carvalho and his Liverpool teammates prepared to fly to Philadelphia for their next fixtures.

The team awaits updates on Curtis Jones, who sustained a muscle injury during the match against Real Betis.
Slot’s squad will face Arsenal at Lincoln Financial Field on Wednesday. Diogo Jota has rejoined the group but is not expected to play against the Gunners and may appear in the final match of the tour instead.
