Aberdeen, Dundee, and Ross County wrapped up their Scottish League Cup first-round groups with perfect records, advancing to the second round alongside Hibernian, St Johnstone, Falkirk, and Spartans.
Dundee United, Airdrieonians, and Queen’s Park will also progress to the next stage as the top three runners-up, joining the previously mentioned seven group winners.
Aberdeen secured their fourth consecutive victory with a commanding 6-0 win over Dumbarton at home, while Dundee stunned visitors Inverness Caledonian Thistle with a similar scoreline of 6-0. Ross County also triumphed at home, finishing 3-0 against Stirling Albion.
Hibernian, St Johnstone, Falkirk, and Spartans each concluded their campaigns with three wins. Hibs notably defeated Peterhead 4-0, while St Johnstone outperformed East Fife with a 5-1 victory.
Falkirk secured a 4-0 victory over nearby rivals Stenhousemuir, finishing ahead of Dundee United on goal difference in Group B. The Tangerines edged out Ayr United also on goal difference, aided by their superior head-to-head record.
Spartans’ 1-0 victory against Livingston allowed them to surpass David Martindale’s team based on goal scored, leading to Livi’s elimination in favor of United, Airdrie, and Queen’s Park, who all boasted better goal differences.
Group G will be finalized on Sunday when leaders Motherwell square off against third-placed Partick Thistle at 15:00.
Scotland’s representatives in Europe—Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Kilmarnock, and St Mirren—are seeded for the last-16 draw on Sunday, along with Aberdeen, Dundee, and Ross County. Rangers enter as the defending champions, having defeated Aberdeen in the previous season’s final.
