• Chalmers delivered an exceptional performance in a close defeat
  • The USA secured the gold medal following a spectacular finish

Kyle Chalmers showcased an outstanding leg for the Australian men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team in Paris, but it fell short in securing a gold medal during a nail-biting race.

Although the team lagged behind for most of the initial three legs, Kai Taylor made a remarkable comeback, placing them in contention for gold, followed by Chalmers who finished just behind the USA.

Swimming icon Ian Thorpe praised it as the ‘best relay I’ve ever seen from Kyle Chalmers’ as the Australians narrowly missed the podium’s top spot.

Jack Cartwright and Flynn Southam left their teammates with a challenge after falling behind in the first two legs of the event.

Caeleb Dressel and his USA team claimed America’s first swimming gold in Paris.
