A recent Wall Street Journal poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris in a dead heat with Donald Trump, following President Biden’s exit from the Democratic nomination for the November election.
“Just 37% of Biden’s supporters were enthusiastic about him in early July, while now 81% of Harris’s supporters are excited about her,” noted Democratic pollster Mike Bocian, who conducted the survey alongside Republican pollster David Lee. “This is a remarkable shift.”
In a direct matchup, Trump holds a slim 2% lead over Harris, which falls within the Journal’s 3.1% margin of error. This suggests that Harris has made significant inroads into the six-point lead Trump had when Biden was still in the race last weekend.
When considering other independent and third-party candidates like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump’s lead dwindles to just 1%, at 45% to 44%. This shift can be attributed to changing voter demographics, as Harris has energized the Democratic base and generated substantial enthusiasm within the party.

After announcing her campaign to take Biden’s place, Harris raised an impressive $100 million from over 1.1 million unique donors in just over 24 hours, which her campaign claims is the “largest 24-hour fundraising total in presidential history.”

Nonetheless, the Journal poll has positive news for Trump. Republican pollster David Lee highlighted that Trump was nine points behind Biden in the July 2020 Journal poll.
“Donald Trump is in a significantly better position this election cycle compared to the same time in the 2020 election,” Lee remarked to the Journal.
Trump is favored by voters on critical issues such as the economy, immigration, foreign policy, and crime, while Harris finds favor on the topic of abortion.
“What initially seemed to be a clear path for a Trump win has evolved into a genuine, competitive race,” remarked veteran political analyst and New England College President Wayne Lesperance to Fox News Digital this week. “Game on.”

A tied national poll may give Trump a leg up in the Electoral College “due to the current population distribution,” according to the Journal. However, Harris has yet to announce her vice presidential pick, with possible candidates like Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Senator Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper being mentioned as potential choices that could impact the race.

In Michigan, a recent Fox News poll shows Harris and Trump tied, representing a three-point improvement for Harris compared to Biden’s 46% in polling conducted in April.
The poll indicates that men favor Trump by 13 points, while women support Harris by 12. Trump leads by two points among voters over the age of 45, while Harris has a five-point lead among those under 35. Voters without a college degree favor Trump by 15 points, whereas Harris leads by three points among college-educated white voters and significantly among voters of color, who prefer her by 39 points.

Fox News surveys in these battleground states indicate that Trump is either maintaining or surpassing his 2020 vote levels in a direct matchup with Harris, receiving strong backing from voters who prioritize the economy and immigration. Conversely, those who rank abortion as their top issue lean toward Harris.
Harris also enjoys more favorable ratings than Trump in every battleground state except Michigan, where they are even.
