Former MLB All-Star Roy Oswalt criticized the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics after participants staged a parody of The Last Supper.
Oswalt, who had an illustrious 13-year career with teams like the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies, expressed his discontent with the event.

“I might be taking a risk here, but I’m predicting this will be the least viewed Olympics in decades with such an offensive opening!” he commented on X.
The performance, which featured a young child, faced significant backlash.

A headless representation of Marie Antoinette, the final queen before the French Revolution, also garnered negative feedback.
The inclusion of drag queens in the torch relay sparked further concern.
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker described the ceremony as “insane” on his Instagram Stories, adding a Biblical quote: “Be not deceived, God is not mocked.”
Thomas Jolly, the opening ceremony’s artistic director, mentioned that the goal behind the performances was to provide a new perspective on how the world views France.

“It’s remarkable how everyone in France and globally has a perception of what France represents. I aim to play with that notion, to start from there—dismantling clichés, as those often accompany various ideas,” he added, as quoted on the Olympics website.
