Vice President Kamala Harris has experienced a significant increase in her favorability among American voters following President Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 race, as revealed by a new poll.
Harris’ overall favorability climbed from 35% to 43% compared to the previous week, while her unfavorability rating decreased from 46% to 42%, according to an ABC News/Ipsos poll conducted on Friday and Saturday.
The poll was taken just a week after Biden announced his exit from the race and endorsed Harris, who quickly united support from fellow Democrats, effectively securing the nomination by mid-last week.

This development energized Democrats, leading to record fundraising efforts for the Harris campaign after she assumed the top position on the ticket, reflecting in the latest poll findings.
A remarkable 88% of Democrats expressed enthusiasm for Harris (63% very enthusiastic and 25% somewhat enthusiastic) as the party’s nominee. This level of enthusiasm surpasses that of former President Trump among Republicans, where 82% indicated they were excited about him becoming the nominee.
Trump, meanwhile, saw his favorability decline in this poll, dropping from 40% the previous week to 36%. His unfavorable rating also saw a slight increase, moving from 51% to 52%.

The poll also addressed the ongoing “veepstakes” for Harris, who has yet to select a running mate. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (54%) and California Governor Gavin Newsom (54%) are the most recognized candidates, while lesser-known figures like Senator Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., (22% favorable) and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (17% favorable) boast the highest favorability ratings among those familiar with them.
