Mercedes’ finish of 1-2 at the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix momentarily narrowed the gap on competitors in the constructors’ championship, but George Russell’s victory was later rescinded.

Although Lewis Hamilton, Russell’s teammate, was awarded the win, Mercedes finds itself in fourth place in the team standings as the summer break approaches.

As the F1 mid-season summer break unfolds, Max Verstappen has further lengthened his lead in the drivers’ championship for Red Bull over McLaren’s Lando Norris. This was accomplished even after a 10-place grid penalty in Spa, which ultimately relegated Verstappen to a fifth-place finish.

Norris’s miscalculation at the first corner proved detrimental, as he not only failed to take advantage of Verstappen’s penalty but also lost ground to his title competitor.
