Mikel Arteta remarked that Gabriel Jesus has rediscovered his ‘spark’ and has something to prove after finding the net against Manchester United this evening in Los Angeles.
The Brazilian forward scored in the first half, helping Arsenal secure a 2-1 victory in their second friendly of the US tour, having faced a challenging season riddled with injuries.
A persistent knee issue hampered his performance and fitness throughout the previous season.
‘It’s evident that he has changed, and you can see it,’ Arteta stated. ‘His appearance, rhythm, sharpness, and movement are all markedly improved.
‘There is a visible spark in his eyes because he now has a point to prove, and that’s beneficial.’

Having struggled with injuries last season, the Brazilian is eager to prove himself this year
‘He appears to be in great shape. He is sharp, having made significant improvements over the summer. He has returned in top condition.
‘Maintaining this condition is vital for him to perform at his best. He is aware of that, and I’m thrilled with what he has displayed today.’
Regarding whether the calls for Arsenal to acquire a new forward have spurred Jesus, he stated: ‘I believe motivation must be internally driven, stemming from his own standards and his capacity to enhance the team’s performance. He has proven that.
‘He has transformed the team’s energy and belief, and he possesses that quality. If he relies on external factors for motivation, it may not last.
‘However, if the motivation is rooted internally, it will endure and be consistent. Hopefully, that is indeed the case.’
