Arsenal managed to secure a 2-1 victory over their rivals Manchester United at the SoFi Stadium in California on Saturday, coming from behind in the match.
The Brazilian pairing of Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli scored to overturn Rasmus Hojlund’s early goal, which was followed by his exit due to injury.
Though the Gunners triumphed in the match, Manchester United prevailed in a post-match penalty shootout, winning 4-3 against the North London club.
The match proved significant for several of Arsenal’s key players as they gained valuable minutes ahead of their clash with Manchester City, set to resume when the Premier League season kicks off against Wolves on August 17.
Mail Sport’s Isaan Khan was on the scene in Los Angeles to see Mikel Arteta’s team take down United. Here are five insights we gained from the evening.

Jesus shines upfront
Gabriel Jesus showcased his talent by skillfully maneuvering around a Manchester United defender with a backheel flick, reminiscent of his performance during Arsenal’s away fixture against Sevilla in October.
During that match, he mesmerized defenders with his skills, setting up Gabriel Martinelli for a goal.
However, a series of hamstring and knee injuries hindered his progress, impacting both his performances and playing time.
In this game, glimpses of Jesus’ exceptional capabilities emerged as he successfully stretched the United defense and created challenges in tight spaces.
Not only did the striker find the net tonight, but he also consistently advanced with the ball.
Last season, Arsenal scored a staggering 91 goals with a multitude of contributors, yet calls for additional forward options arose after a close finish against Manchester City.
If Jesus can maintain fitness throughout the season, the Gunners will possess a wealth of attacking options.

Nwaneri shines at 17
Although Ethan Nwaneri only participated in the first half, he certainly made a significant impact during his time on the field.
His low cross that bypassed the United defense for Jesus’ goal was a clear indication of his potential, proving he deserves a spot on the first team this season.
He unsuccessfully attempted a shot on goal that was ruled offside after just 10 minutes but made a striking cross-field pass later in the half.
His calmness and confidence on the ball were evident, suggesting the intensity of the match does not faze him, and given his unsuccessful breakthrough last season, he looks ready to take the next step.
Fellow academy player Ayden Heaven also exhibited promise. Though he was initially overpowered by Rasmus Hojlund for Man United’s opening goal, he quickly recovered and showcased composure on the ball, especially for a defender who is still adjusting to a new position after being a midfielder.
These are encouraging signs for a pivotal season ahead for the Gunners.

Stars return
The Arsenal heavyweights — Gabriel, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kai Havertz — arrived in the US yesterday after a well-deserved break following their participation in the Euros.
The trio was substituted on the 71st minute for some playing time, and Martinelli quickly reminded Mikel Arteta of his abilities after losing his position to Leandro Trossard during the latter part of last season.
He delivered a threatening cross that went unrewarded in the 73rd minute before netting a classy goal.
On the left wing, Martinelli made a powerful run, deftly placing the ball just ahead of him to allow for a strike past Andre Onana.
The Brazilian appeared revitalized as the season approaches, bringing intimidation every time he touched the ball.
His ability to either cut inside or extend for a cross presents a significant challenge for defenders.
Mikel Arteta’s adaptability in making changes has been evident in recent months, and a successful pre-season could see Martinelli return to the forefront.

No pitch issues this year
After the pitch problems from last year, the SoFi Stadium personnel were keen to avoid a repeat. Thankfully, the pitch was in excellent condition, having been prepped with water before kick-off.
This contrasted sharply with Arsenal’s prior match against Barcelona, which suffered a 30-minute delay due to pitch issues, to the point where Mikel Arteta voiced concerns about player safety.
It was a relief to see these issues addressed, fittingly to match the grandeur of the stadium. Additional alterations include a wider touchline, complying with FIFA’s revised pitch size regulations near the corner flags.

Unique experience in the US
Los Angeles presented a touch of American flair to the visiting English fans, as Arsenal’s anthem “North London Forever” echoed around the stadium prior to kick-off, creating a sense of home away from home.
The US National Anthem also played while the players lined up, with everyone, including the media, standing in respect.
An interesting note was the game commencing 10 minutes past the scheduled 5pm kick-off time, as players took their time to come out.

The interest in soccer in the US is on the rise, promising more such events in the future.
It’s a positive sign how seriously the US treats these friendlies, making every effort to enhance the fan experience. It truly stands out as a unique experience.
