Coco Gauff’s pursuit of her first Olympic gold medal is still on track after she triumphed over Argentina’s Maria Lourdes Carle on Monday.
The American secured a convincing victory in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, advancing to the third round.
She aims to maintain her momentum in her upcoming match against Croatia’s Donna Vekic.
On Sunday, the 20-year-old made history by becoming the youngest American woman to win an Olympic singles match since Venus Williams in 2000, defeating Ajla Tomljanovic.
Her fellow American teammates also had a successful Sunday, with Danielle Collins, Emma Navarro, and Jessica Pegula all winning their respective matches and advancing.

Gauff, who served as a flag-bearer during the opening ceremony alongside LeBron James, is competing in her inaugural Olympics.
She was originally selected for the postponed Tokyo Games in 2021 but had to withdraw after contracting COVID.
Her Monday win follows her revelation that her entire team has left the Olympic village for a hotel.
Gauff candidly shared a TikTok video on Saturday, highlighting the cramped conditions athletes face within the new $1.6 billion facility, famously featuring ten women sharing just two bathrooms.

Gauff is set to compete against Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the third round.
When a fan suggested she should also move to a hotel, Gauff pointed out that her teammates had indeed departed.
‘All the tennis girls moved to a hotel except me, so now it’s just five girls sharing two bathrooms,’ she responded.
Despite the situation, Gauff expressed that she is enjoying her time in the village, which will host thousands of athletes from various nations for the next two weeks.
‘Well, it’s only five girls now, so I have the room to myself. My roommates are very chill. I love it,’ she added.
