Apostolos Stamatelopoulos has signed a three-year contract with Motherwell, including an option for an additional year.
The 25-year-old Australian forward joins the club from Newcastle Jets for an undisclosed amount, with manager Stuart Kettlewell describing the acquisition as “a smart move.”
Stamatelopoulos received his first international appearance, coming on as a substitute during a World Cup qualifier against Palestine in June.
“We’ve been seeking a goalscorer,” Kettlewell mentioned on the club’s website.
“Apostolos possesses the characteristics we’re aiming to introduce to our team.”
The 6ft striker previously played for Adelaide United and Western United before joining the Jets in January 2021.
Last season, he netted 17 goals, boosting his total in the A-League to 24 across 60 appearances.
“It feels fantastic to finally announce that I’m a Motherwell player,” Stamatelopoulos expressed after watching the 0-0 League Cup match with Partick Thistle at Fir Park.
“Seeing all the fans and the team in action made me eager to join in.
“The road to this point has been long, but I’m now ready to make my mark. My objective is to score goals, and I will strive to achieve that.”
