- Filip Jorgensen has officially joined Chelsea from Villarreal for £21m, as confirmed by the club
Chelsea has secured the signing of 22-year-old goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal, and he has been flown to the United States to start training under Enzo Maresca.
Jorgensen is viewed as an excellent fit for Maresca’s tactical approach and was already present in Atlanta for a training session at Pace Academy following his £21 million transfer that was finalized on Tuesday.
Maresca aimed to bring in a new goalkeeper to enhance his strategy of playing out from the back. Chelsea’s current goalkeepers have been participating in passing drills during training.
With Jorgensen on board, Chelsea is now tasked with finding a new destination for Kepa Arrizabalaga, who spent the previous season on loan at Real Madrid.
Djordje Petrovic may also depart, as Robert Sanchez, Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom, and Eddie Beach are the other goalkeepers accompanying Chelsea on their U.S. tour.
