Chelsea has secured the signing of goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal for £20.7 million on a seven-year deal.

The 22-year-old Dane featured in 37 matches for Villarreal last season after establishing himself as the primary goalkeeper for the team.

“This transfer is a dream come true,” Jorgensen expressed. “I am thrilled to join Chelsea, one of the largest clubs globally.”

“I’m eager to get to know everyone and start playing alongside my new teammates.”

Jorgensen is set to challenge Robert Sanchez for the starting goalkeeper position at Chelsea.

Originally from Sweden, Jorgensen played for the Swedish youth teams before committing to Denmark’s Under-21s, qualifying through his paternal lineage.

He joined Villarreal at the age of 15 and rose through the club’s academy system before making his senior debut for the B team in October 2020.

Jorgensen, who debuted in La Liga in January 2023, has traveled to the United States to participate in Chelsea’s pre-season tour.

The Blues have three remaining matches, giving him the opportunity to play against Club America, Manchester City, or Real Madrid before they head back home next week.

Chelsea will kick off their Premier League season at home against reigning champions City on Sunday, 18 August (16:30 BST).
