He has proudly earned a spot as a top 100 finalist in the USA Mullet Championship.

“I saw it last year and thought it was awesome. People often say I should be on TV with a hairstyle like this. We thought entering the contest would be a fun experience,” Hayes explained.

The USA Mullet Championship has transitioned from a local Michigan event in 2020 to a national competition encompassing all states.
Participants across various ages can join the competition in the kid, teen, and adult categories.
According to Hayes, his unique hairstyle often sparks conversations.

“My friends think it’s pretty great, they’re accustomed to seeing me with it, and I receive countless compliments about it,” he remarked.

The iconic “business in the front, party in the back” hairstyle has famously been worn by artists like David Bowie and Billy Ray Cyrus.
A portion of the funds raised from the championship supports Jared Allen’s Homes for Wounded Warriors, a nonprofit dedicated to providing mortgage-free housing to severely injured veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, as stated on the USA Mullet Championship website.

“I really appreciate that this event supports a wonderful cause—it’s not solely about the mullets,” Patrick’s father, Michael Hayes, told Fox News Digital via email. “It’s such a fun way for him to kick off the school year!”
