Don Lemon, who spent years criticizing former President Trump during his tenure at CNN before being let go last year, expressed joy over his newfound freedom from “corporate overlords,” allowing him to officially back Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming November election.
Lemon was never shy about his opinions while on CNN, where he drew comparisons between Trump supporters and members of the Ku Klux Klan, chuckled at a guest calling Trump’s base the “credulous boomer rube demo,” and frequently criticized the former president. However, during a “Black Men for Harris” virtual meeting, he shared that he now feels free to declare his support.
“I’m thrilled to be in an independent position where I no longer have to navigate corporate influences, where I can champion democracy, and openly express my endorsements. I’m aligned with democracy,” Lemon stated during the virtual gathering.

“I’m supporting someone who will truly benefit our community; I’m not backing Project 2025. I refuse to treat these two campaigns as equals,” Lemon added. “We’ve heard enough about Donald Trump. It’s time to move on from MAGA.”
Lemon later remarked that Trump supporters receive excessive media attention, stating, “It’s crucial for people to recognize Black voters in this election, as we will ultimately determine the outcome.”
Upon the clip being shared on social media, one user humorously noted that “it was always a real mystery which party Don Lemon was backing.”

Lemon previously likened Trump to Adolf Hitler in 2019, arguing that such “bad people” should not have a platform. In 2020, he suggested that then-President Trump allowed former President Obama to get under his skin because Obama is “better looking,” “better educated,” and has a “more accomplished” spouse, in a segment that quickly garnered attention.
Lemon proclaimed in 2021, “If you cast your vote for Trump, you supported the individual endorsed by the Klan. You chose the candidate that Nazis back.”

When CNN transitioned to its new headquarters at New York City’s upscale Hudson Yards, Lemon showcased his lavish surroundings while taking a jab at Trump.
“The only individual who could afford an apartment like this is not Trump, but someone who is a genuine billionaire,” Lemon remarked.
In 2022, he was removed from his prominent solo primetime role to join an ensemble morning show that struggled to attract viewers and was eventually superseded.
Lemon, who had been with CNN for 17 years, was terminated in 2023 by then-CNN CEO Chris Licht after a string of missteps and controversies. Licht himself was ousted later that same year.
Recently, Lemon has been sharing pro-Harris posts on his social media, referring to her as “your next president” and endorsing “White Dudes for Harris.”
