Vice President Kamala Harris faced significant backlash on social media after seemingly adopting a southern accent during a speech in Atlanta.
“You all helped us win in 2020 and we’re going to do it again in 2024,” Harris, a California native, announced to rally attendees while apparently showcasing the new accent.
This shift in accent quickly drew the attention of social media critics, who accused the potential Democratic nominee of trying to pander to the local crowd.
“Kamala Harris spoke in Atlanta and suddenly has a southern accent,” said OutKick founder Clay Travis on X, sharing a clip from the event. “Why do people do this? It’s just so obviously fake.”

“Do other regional accents get this treatment?” Travis queried in a follow-up post. “I doubt it. Nobody goes to Massachusetts and starts speaking like a Kennedy. It seems exclusive to the South.”
Travis’ remarks spurred numerous reactions from critics of Harris’ accent.
“It’s what sociopaths do,” one response stated.
“It’s termed mirroring and reflects a strong narcissistic tendency,” another user remarked.

The incident also attracted the attention of conservative writer Ian Haworth.
“Kamala Harris’s artificial southern accent outshines Hillary Clinton’s,” Haworth stated on X, alluding to the widely ridiculed instances of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s southern accent throughout her political career.
This viral moment coincides with Harris’ ongoing efforts to establish her presence on the campaign trail, following her recent ascension to the lead of the Democratic ticket, with Georgia identified as a pivotal swing state that could influence the upcoming November election.
Former President Trump secured this state by a margin of just over five points in 2016, but President Biden narrowly flipped it in 2020, winning by less than a point.

The state is expected to be one of the most competitive races again in 2024, with the Real Clear Politics polling average indicating Trump has a slim 3.6-point lead over Harris as of Wednesday.
The Harris campaign did not respond promptly to a Fox News Digital request for comment.
