Introducing Katie Ledecky, an eight-time Olympic gold medalist.
At 27 years old, Ledecky has equaled Jenny Thompson’s record for the most Olympic gold medals in women’s swimming history by clinching victory in the 1,500-meter event on Wednesday. She achieved an impressive Olympic record time of 15:30.02 during her remarkable performance.
This marks her 12th Olympic medal overall, tying her with Thompson and Emma McKeon for the highest number of medals in women’s swimming history.

From the start, Ledecky dominated the race, establishing a lead of over three seconds after the first quarter. By the 1200-meter mark, her lead had expanded to nearly eight seconds, ultimately resulting in a victory by double digits.
She previously won this event in Tokyo.
The gap was so significant that cameras needed to zoom out to capture the next-fastest swimmer.
Before Wednesday, Ledecky had secured one medal in these Games, earning bronze in the women’s 400m freestyle.
