On Tuesday, Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., successfully battled a primary challenge from a fellow Republican who was applying pressure from the right, just ahead of what is anticipated to be a competitive race in November.
Ciscomani secured the GOP primary for the 6th Congressional District, surpassing Kathleen Winn, who had finished third in the 2022 primary for the position. He is set to face Democrat Kristen Engel in November, who nearly captured 50% of the vote against him in the previous election.

Ciscomani has emphasized his bipartisan approach, consistently defending his capacity to collaborate with Democrats. In contrast, Winn challenged the idea that the district desired a moderate representative.
“We continually hear that this is a moderate district. I contend that it is a conservative district,” she stated this month, as reported by the Tucson Sentinel.
Winn also accused Ciscomani of neglecting to engage with her.
“My opponent does not seem to acknowledge my existence,” said Winn.

Despite this, Ciscomani can proudly claim the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.
“Congressman Juan Ciscomani is doing an outstanding job representing the great people of Arizona’s 6th Congressional District,” Trump remarked on Truth Social in May. “Juan is diligently working to Secure our Border, Protect our Wonderful Military and Veterans, Promote Election Integrity, and Expand American Jobs and the Economy.”
The district is classified as a tossup by the Cook Political Report, which rates the race an R+3. In 2022, Ciscomani received 50.7% of the votes, while Engel garnered 49.2%.

The most nationally scrutinized race is the contest to replace Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who will not seek another term. In the presidential elections, Arizona was won by Trump in 2016 and by President Biden in 2020.
