Osimhen is currently at Napoli’s pre-season training camp, but according to Naples-based journalist Vincenzo Credendino, the Nigerian striker is only participating to maintain his fitness.
“He isn’t taking part in friendly matches against other teams,” Credendino, who writes for CalcioNapoli24 TV, informed BBC Sport.
“At times, he even skips the internal matches among Napoli players. He is primarily focused on keeping himself in good condition, but he’s not taking any risks as it’s quite probable he will leave Napoli sometime this summer.”
It appears Osimhen’s exit is imminent. He mentioned to CBS Sports, external in January that he had already “made up my mind” regarding his future.
Napoli chairman Aurelio de Laurentiis previously stated that the forward would likely join either “Real Madrid, Paris St-Germain or a club in England”.
Credendino suggests that PSG appears to be the most probable destination, though the French champions seem hesitant to meet a reported release clause of £111m.
Chelsea has expressed interest in Osimhen, but his asking price and wage requests have been a deterrent this summer, while Arsenal is the latest Premier League club reportedly linked with the striker.
Credendino also mentions that Saudi Arabian clubs have shown interest; however, Osimhen prefers not to transfer there and instead “dreams” of playing in England.
He concludes: “Since he arrived in Napoli, we’ve been in touch with his friends, and from day one, his agent and family have consistently expressed that his dream is to play in the Premier League.”
