Rory McIlroy is currently one-over par after three holes at Le Golf National, although this score does not accurately reflect his performance on the course.
He executed a remarkable chip onto the green from a difficult lie, allowing him to tap in for a birdie that brings his score back to even. What an impressive chip that was!
Though he’s faced challenges on tour this year, the Northern Irishman, who is representing Ireland in this summer’s games, is hitting the ball exceptionally well today.
After a tough year on the PGA Tour and a heartbreaking finish at the US Open, what would it mean for McIlroy to win an Olympic medal?
‘The last time you all saw me, I didn’t perform very well at Troon,’ McIlroy commented, just before his first tournament since missing the cut at The Open.
‘I’ve been asked numerous times where an Olympic medal would rank in my career accomplishments; it’s a question I probably won’t be able to answer until everything is settled.’
He further stated: ‘It would certainly be the achievement of the year for me. As everyone knows, I haven’t won one of the big four in ten years. It would likely be, if not the biggest, one of the biggest achievements of my career in the past decade.’
