A German court decided last month that El Ghazi’s dismissal was unjust.
El Ghazi, who was born in the Netherlands, is eligible to play for Morocco but chose to represent the Netherlands following advice from Cristiano Ronaldo. He has earned two caps at the international level.
He started his professional career with Ajax and later moved to Lille in France in a transfer worth over £6 million in 2017.
In 2018, he was signed by Aston Villa on loan, which eventually became a permanent move, where he netted 26 goals across 119 matches.
He was loaned out to Everton in January 2022, making just two appearances before heading back to the Netherlands to play for PSV Eindhoven, and subsequently moved to Mainz in September under a two-year deal.
Due to a conflict with Mainz, El Ghazi participated in only four matches last season and hasn’t played competitively since October 6, 2023.
“I realize I haven’t been on the field for some time. I kept myself in shape for personal reasons, but being part of a team training environment is another experience. Once I’m fully fit, I aim to contribute to the team with goals, assists, and my experience. I will give my all for the club,” El Ghazi expressed.
Cardiff manager Erol Bulut commented: “Anwar understands the dynamics of football in both the Championship and Premier League, which makes him a valuable asset for us.”
“In attacking positions, he can excel with his creativity, scoring ability, and assists. I believe fans will appreciate his skills and flair on the pitch.
“He will need some time to get back into the rhythm, having been away from football for so long, but we will focus on getting him fit, and I believe we will see the quality he possesses at El Ghazi.”
