Aston Villa has secured the signing of midfielder Missy Bo Kearns from Liverpool, another club in the WSL, for an undisclosed fee. Born in Merseyside, Kearns has been a devoted Liverpool supporter since childhood, having joined the club when she was just eight years old, and it has been reported that she bid an emotional farewell to her teammates last Friday.
The 23-year-old, who has represented England at youth level, received her inaugural call-up to the Lionesses squad in May. Aspiring to achieve her first senior cap and a spot in next summer’s European Championship, she chose to make the move in search of more match opportunities.
Liverpool expressed sadness at losing a beloved player but did not wish to hinder her progress. Aston Villa has been interested in Kearns for several months.
It is believed that there is a sell-on clause included in the deal for Liverpool, with potential add-ons linked to Kearns’ international appearances. Liverpool manager Matt Beard stated: “We respect Missy Bo’s choice and she leaves with our heartfelt best wishes, as well as those from our supporters.
“She has proudly represented the club as a local girl, and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with her over the years. I will be closely following her future progress with great interest and pride.”
Villa manager Robert de Pauw commented: “I view Missy Bo as a versatile box-to-box midfielder. She possesses strong passing skills and knows how to find the back of the net. Missy has the potential to become a regular in the England squad.”
Crystal Palace, newly promoted, has announced their first signing of the summer, acquiring Danish international defender Katrine Veje from Everton.
Palace is also set to bring in New Zealand forward Indiah-Paige Riley, as efforts to bolster the squad ramp up. An agreement has been reached with PSV, and the 22-year-old has settled on personal terms with Palace.
