Paris Olympics medal race is dramatically ABANDONED due to weather conditions… as BBC commentators admit they’ve ‘never seen anything like it’

The men’s skiff medal race, featuring two hopefuls from Team GB, was canceled on Thursday afternoon due to unfavorable wind conditions off the coast of Marseille.

The race was temporarily halted because of a shift in winds during the initial leg, prompting race officials to seek alternative arrangements.

James Peters and Fynn Sterritt, representing Great Britain, were in sixth place at that point in the race, having started in seventh place after the Opening Series.

The cancellation could work to their advantage, as they will have the opportunity to restart the race without any prior disadvantages. Race directors are exploring the possibility of moving the race location within the bay.

The BBC commentary team expressed their disbelief, stating they had “never witnessed anything like this before.”

They initially surged to first place at the race’s commencement, but crews from Croatia, Spain, and New Zealand quickly took a commanding lead.

At the moment the race was halted, the boat representing Uruguay, helmed by Hernan Umpierre and Fernando Diz, was in the lead.

For Team GB to reach the podium, they need an outstanding performance in the medal race, coupled with missteps from competing pairs.

Teams carry their accumulated points into the final race, which counts double. These scores are combined to yield the overall ranking, with the team achieving the lowest total points declared the winner.

The duo from Spain, Diego Botin and Florian Trittel, entered the medal race atop the leaderboard.
