Borussia Dortmund has finalized the acquisition of Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross for an undisclosed amount.
The Germany international spent seven years on the south coast after moving to Brighton from German club Ingolstadt in 2017.
At 33 years old, he stands as Brighton’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier League with 30 goals, and across all competitions, he netted 32 goals and provided 52 assists in 261 matches for the Seagulls.
Brighton aimed to retain Gross, but the German midfielder had shown a strong desire to join his boyhood club, Dortmund.
“We are truly sorry to see Pascal leave, but we completely understand his position,” stated Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler.
“It’s only natural that he wanted to seize the chance to join one of the premier clubs in Germany, and he leaves with our heartfelt best wishes for the future.”
Hurzeler expressed his “disappointment” at not having the chance to work with Gross.
Gross was the first signing for Brighton after they secured promotion to the Premier League in 2017.
He scored the club’s first top-tier goal in 34 years during a victory over West Brom.
His impressive performance at the club led to his first call-up to Germany’s national team at the age of 32, where he participated in Euro 2024, where the host nation was eliminated by Spain in the quarter-finals.
