  • They surged ahead of the Netherlands in a thrilling finish after trailing throughout the race
  • Anderson highlighted the adaptability of her team’s strategy during the race

The victorious Team GB women in the quadruple sculls attributed their thrilling gold medal achievement to unwavering trust among teammates.

Lauren Henry, Lola Anderson, Hannah Scott, and Georgie Brayshaw were behind the Netherlands for nearly the entire 2,000 metres before they seized victory with their final stroke.

This win marked Britain’s first gold medal since the 2016 Rio Olympics, alleviating some pressure on the well-funded rowing squad.

Anderson remarked, ‘Everyone always aspires to win by a large margin, but we don’t adhere to a rigid strategy.’

‘Racing is inherently dynamic. Being behind at the start doesn’t mean it’s over. Even if you’re down at 250 metres, it’s not the end. Our bond of unyielding trust helps us push through. We’ve overcame significant deficits before; it’s not done until you cross the finish line.’

Scott, the sole member from the team that didn’t medal in Tokyo, said, ‘I’ve heard some think rowing is rather dull. We aimed to give everyone an entertaining spectacle.’
