After more than 50 years, Aerosmith has announced their retirement from touring.
On Friday, the official X account for the band, previously known as Twitter, revealed that Steven Tyler’s voice has not adequately recovered, prompting the “heartbreaking” choice to cease performances.
“It all began in 1970 when a spark ignited the formation of Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our loyal Blue Army, that spark has evolved into a blazing fire that has persisted for over five decades. Many of you have supported us from the very start, and each of you is the reason we have made rock ‘n’ roll history,” the statement began.

“It has been our greatest honor to have our music become intertwined with your lives. In every venue, during every grand tour, and in both public and personal moments, you have allowed us to be a part of your life’s soundtrack. Our goal has always been to amaze you with our performances,” the statement continued.
The band elaborated on Tyler’s current health issues.
“As you are aware, Steven’s voice is a unique instrument. He has dedicated months to tirelessly working on restoring his voice to its pre-injury state,” the statement read. “Despite having the finest medical team, we’ve witnessed him struggle.”
“Regrettably, it has become clear that a complete recovery from his vocal injury is unattainable. As a band of brothers, we have made a heartbreaking yet essential decision to step away from the touring stage.”
“We are immensely grateful for all those excited to see us on the road one last time,” their message went on. “Thankful to our skilled crew, our amazing team, and the thousands of talented individuals who’ve made our iconic journeys possible. A final thanks to you—the best fans in the world. Play our music loudly, now and forever. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams a reality.”

In May 2023, Aerosmith revealed their farewell tour, aiming to give fans one last opportunity to experience the band live.
At the time of the announcement, Guitarist Joe Perry discussed the decision to retire from touring, pointing out that the band members are all in their early to mid-70s as a significant factor in stepping away from touring.

The current lineup, featuring Perry, Tyler, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer, and Todd Hamilton, has been together since 1970. Over these 53 years, they have produced hits such as “Janie’s Got a Gun,” “Crazy,” and “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.”
They performed these classics and more during their Las Vegas residency that concluded last year, with Perry mentioning that they would incorporate some of the production values from the residency into their upcoming tour.
“We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision to retire from the touring stage.”

“This is a chance to celebrate the 50 years we’ve spent together,” Perry remarked. “You never know how much longer everyone will be healthy enough to continue this. It’s been some time since we’ve had a proper tour. The Vegas run was fantastic, but we are eager to hit the road again.”
At the time, Tyler expressed, “We’re opening up Pandora’s Box one last time to present our fans with the Peace Out tour. Be there or beware as we dig out all the treasures from the attic. Get ready.”

While both Perry and Tyler described the coming tour as a farewell, Tyler added, “It’s the final farewell tour, but I believe it will extend for some time. However, I can’t guarantee how frequently we’ll return to the same cities. It might very well be the last time.”
