Team Great Britain captured the gold medal in showjumping after Scott Brash maintained his composure during the final round, going clear.
The trio of Brash, Harry Charles, and Ben Maher fended off competition from the United States, ultimately being hailed as Olympic champions with just two time penalties.
Maher, who earned individual gold in Tokyo in 2021, was the first to compete in the final, clearing the course with one time penalty. Charles followed with a flawless round. As the last competitor, Brash also jumped clear but incurred one time penalty, which secured victory for the team.
Both Brash and Maher were part of the squad that clinched team gold in London 2012. This marks the first Olympic medal for Charles, whose father, Peter, was a member of that 2012 team.
After his clear round on Romeo 88, Charles expressed his emotions, saying: “I’m pretty speechless, I need some time to reflect. That was possibly the best round of my life at this pivotal moment in my career.
“To perform well and have Romeo come through on this stage at such a crucial time – it has taken considerable effort to reach this level, and I’m incredibly proud of him.”
France, the host nation, finished in third place behind the US after Julien Epaillard knocked down one fence in the final round.
