A decade ago, when Manchester United’s ‘Class of 92’ – which featured Gary and Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Nicky Butt – took the reins of then non-league Salford City, Peter Lim emerged as a significant figure, acquiring a 50% share in the club.
Under Lim’s guidance, the club experienced a swift rise, advancing from the Northern Premier League Division One North to a position within the English Football League, and he was present on the pitch at Wembley celebrating alongside the former United stars when they triumphed over AFC Fylde in the National League play-off final in 2019.
However, the last five years have been considerably tougher, with the team changing managers five times, making the play-offs just once, and finishing in 20th place last season.
Facing small attendances, the club has been actively seeking external investment for quite some time, but with no prospects coming forward, it appears that Gary Neville is now stepping up to take responsibility for ensuring the club remains in the Football League.
