A recent video published by the Tulsa Fire Department in Oklahoma depicts a dog accidentally igniting a house fire while chewing on a lithium-ion battery.
The footage, captured by an indoor surveillance camera in the living room, shows two dogs and a cat. One of the dogs starts gnawing on a lithium-ion battery pack, which subsequently explodes, leading to a fire in the home.
The fire was quickly extinguished by the prompt response of the fire department. Fortunately, all of the pets managed to escape the blazing house through a dog door.

As per Tulsa Fire Department’s public information officer, Andy Little, “The outcome could have been significantly worse if there had been no escape route or if the family had been sleeping during the incident.”

Little also mentioned that lithium-ion batteries serve an essential role in charging electronic devices due to their ability to store a “substantial amount of energy in a small form.”
“Many people keep these batteries in their homes for convenience, often unaware of the potential risks they may pose,” Little stated in the video.

“It is essential to follow the manufacturer’s instructions when utilizing lithium-ion batteries, using only approved chargers and ensuring they are stored out of reach of children and pets.”

The National Fire Protection Agency advises that all users of lithium-ion batteries should cease charging their devices once the battery is full.
