Burrell continued, “I browsed through her pantry and grabbed some ingredients. She had a can of water chestnuts, so I decided to add a crunchy twist to our dinner. I tossed in some soy sauce, sautéed onions, ginger, garlic, and cilantro — and voilà! The ultimate turkey burger was created.”

SPINACH VS. KALE: WHICH IS ‘BETTER’ FOR YOU? NUTRITIONISTS SETTLE THE GREAT DEBATE
Instructions
1. For the turkey burgers: Coat a large sauté pan with olive oil and add the onion. Season with salt and heat to medium. Cook the onion until it becomes soft and aromatic, about 7-8 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
Turn off the heat and let cool.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the turkey, water chestnuts, soy sauce, cilantro, ginger, sambal (if using), and the cooked onions and garlic. (Remember to save the onion pan for cooking the burgers later!)
“Use your hands to squish the mixture until everything is really well combined.”
Add ¼ to ½ cup of water to keep the burgers moist!
Mix thoroughly using your hands until all ingredients are well blended.

3. Create and cook a small tester patty to ensure the turkey is flavorful. If needed, adjust the seasoning with a dash more soy sauce or salt.
Once satisfied that the burger mix is perfectly seasoned, form it into 4 equal patties.

“Cook the burgers for 5-6 minutes on each side,” stated Burrell. “The burgers should be nicely browned and cooked through by the time they are done.” (iStock)
4. Using a paper towel, wipe the sauté pan from cooking the onion clean, then add fresh olive oil and heat to medium-high. Add the burger patties without overcrowding the pan; work in batches if necessary.
