In a surprising move, Raith Rovers have dismissed manager Ian Murray just one match into the new Scottish Championship season, only two months after leading the club to the play-off final.
Despite securing a second-place finish last season, Rovers stated that “results and performances since the turn of the year have not met expectations,” and have initiated the hunt for a new manager.
Colin Cameron and John Potter will serve as interim managers until a successor is appointed.
The Kirkcaldy club kicked off their Championship campaign with a 1-0 loss to Airdrieonians on Saturday, having failed to advance from their League Cup group earlier this summer.
In May, Rovers were denied promotion after beating Partick Thistle in the play-off semi-finals, followed by a 6-1 aggregate loss to Ross County.
In their announcement of his departure, Rovers stated: “The board expresses its gratitude to Ian for his contributions since joining the club.”
Murray, 43, a former player for Hibs and Rangers, took charge at Stark’s Park two years ago after leaving Airdrie. Under his leadership, Rovers finished seventh and reached the Scottish Cup quarter-finals in his inaugural season.
During his tenure, Murray managed 105 games with a record of 47 wins, translating to a win percentage of 44%.
Last summer, Rovers were taken over by a local consortium, with two members coming from Kelty Hearts.
