Noah Lyles has secured his very first Olympic championship, triumphing in the men’s 100m final by the narrowest of margins.
After finishing second in his semifinal earlier that day, Lyles clinched his first Olympic gold medal with a time of 9.79 seconds on Sunday, edging to victory by mere fractions.
This remarkable achievement marks the pinnacle of the 27-year-old athlete’s career, following a bronze medal win at the Tokyo Games in 2021, as he narrowly outpaced Kishane Thompson.
His fellow American Fred Kerley also shined, taking home the bronze medal with a time of 9.81 seconds.
Lyles becomes the first American to win gold in this event since Justin Gatlin in 2004, raising his arms in celebration as he basked in the roaring cheers of the enthusiastic crowd at the Stade de France, proudly seeing his name at the top of the leaderboard.
