The Kansas City Chiefs are set to keep a key player for the foreseeable future.

Kicker Harrison Butker has reportedly signed a four-year contract valued at $25.6 million, marking the highest amount ever awarded to a kicker in NFL history. Additionally, his $17.75 million in guaranteed money is also a record for the position.

Butker has consistently performed exceptionally in the NFL, even under the harshest winter conditions in Kansas City.

Over his seven-year career, Butker has converted 89.1% of his field goal attempts and 94.5% of his extra-point attempts. Last season was particularly impressive, as he completed all 38 PATs and 33 of 35 field goals (a career-high 94.3%).

“There’s no place I’d rather be than with the Chiefs. I’m thrilled to secure a four-year extension. To the Heights!” he shared on X.

The three-time Super Bowl champion solidified his legacy in February, going 4-for-4 on field goal tries during Super Bowl LVIII, including two critical kicks that tied the game in the fourth quarter—one of which sent it to overtime with just three seconds remaining.

DANIEL JONES GETS SCRAPPY AS GIANTS, LIONS GET INTO MULTIPLE ALTERCATIONS DURING JOINT PRACTICE

Butker has become a divisive figure this offseason after delivering a faith-driven commencement address at Benedictine College, where he encouraged women to embrace the role of “homemaker.”

This controversial address drew both praise and criticism, with even some of the college’s nuns stating his remarks “fostered division” and “do not…represent” the institution’s values.

He also criticized President Biden, stating that, “Issues such as abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, and the rising endorsement of ‘degenerate’ cultural values and media originate from a deeper sense of disorder.”

Despite the backlash, Butker’s jersey saw a surge in popularity on the NFL’s online store shortly after the speech.

It looks like Matt Araiza will take on the role of punter for the team in Week 1, having signed after his rape accuser dropped a lawsuit, with prosecutors declaring the encounters were consensual.
