Top podcaster Joe Rogan’s latest Netflix special faced harsh criticism from the left, being labeled as “odd,” unamusing, and “foolish” after he candidly ridiculed the transgender debate and voiced his doubts regarding COVID vaccines.
“At least be humorous if you’re going to be ignorant and offensive,” wrote Daily Beast columnist Wajahat Ali on X, commenting on the humor during the routine. “Joe Rogan’s primary fault during his comedy special was his lack of humor. Though his devoted fans adore it, it’s making too many intelligent individuals appear foolish.”
“Rogan exemplifies the perils of delving into the ‘red pill’ mindset. Steer clear at all costs; it degrades your intellect,” tweeted Project Liberal co-founder Joshua Reed Eakle.
In his special “Burn the Boats,” which premiered on Saturday on the streaming platform, Rogan stood by some of the contentious views he’s shared on his renowned podcast while brushing off accusations from media critics who claimed he was spreading misinformation.

In a segment that upset many on the left, Rogan ponders whether society has become overly accepting of biological men identifying as transgender women.
“Let me be very clear. I support trans people,” he remarked to a live audience in Austin during the new special. “The world is indeed strange, and sometimes nature throws a curveball, leading one to feel they are in the wrong body. I fully uphold your right as an adult to pursue whatever makes you happy. I champion freedom and love, but I also acknowledge the existence of some eccentricities.”
“I’m open to new ideas. I genuinely want to understand what’s happening,” he continued. “It feels as though a perverse wizard cast a spell over the entire world. ‘With this wand, now you can enter the women’s locker room with a hard-on, and anyone who raises an objection is labeled a Nazi. Abracadabra!’ And it somehow works!’”
This “new reality,” he contends, is what is truly “strange.” “You can’t just wear makeup; now you can just use the women’s restroom without repercussions.”

In another viral moment, Rogan humorously mentioned that the COVID pandemic has led him to be more open to some conspiracy theories.
“We lost many individuals during COVID, and remarkably, many of them are still around,” Rogan stated. “Prior to COVID, I would have asserted that vaccines were humanity’s greatest invention. Now, I’m questioning everything. I think we never went to the moon. I’m starting to believe there’s a conspiracy regarding Michelle Obama. I think Pizzagate is plausible. There are energy weapons in Antarctica.” He added humorously, “Just kidding — I don’t really think that about Michelle Obama, but I genuinely believe in all the other stuff.”
“But sincerely: if you’re taking vaccine advice from me, is that truly my fault?” he remarked.
Rogan’s quips about wanting to avoid being “surrounded by” gay men and his criticisms of cancel culture have also drawn attention from media outlets like the New York Times, The Daily Beast, and others in their unfavorable reviews.
“Joe Rogan Is Stranger Than J.D. Vance in Gay Sex-Obsessed Live Netflix Special,” remarked critic Sean L. McCarthy for The Daily Beast.

A reviewer from The New York Times acknowledged Rogan for tackling controversial subjects from various viewpoints on his podcast, but contended that his stand-up performance lacked the same depth or insight.
“Rogan delves into ideas on his podcast, whereas in his latest special, he chooses to appear ignorant,” wrote critic Jason Zinoman in his review for the publication.
