The new Fox Nation docuseries “The Last Days of John McAfee” explores the unresolved mysteries surrounding the enigmatic death of British-American tech entrepreneur John McAfee.

The renowned creator of the McAfee antivirus program was found dead in a Spanish prison cell in 2021 while awaiting extradition to the United States. Despite officials’ assertions that he died by suicide, many remain skeptical.

“I refuse to believe he took his own life. I firmly believe he was likely drugged or injected with something to prevent him from resisting, and then positioned,” Janice, McAfee’s wife, shared in the special series on Fox Nation.

McAfee was facing tax evasion charges from the U.S. Department of Justice and had been evading capture, asserting that the investigations against him were politically motivated. He also claimed to possess information on influential figures and felt that the U.S. government was pursuing him.

“He believed that U.S. government officials were after him and lived in fear for his safety,” stated attorney Andrew Gordon, who aided McAfee’s legal team after his indictment by the IRS.

“John proclaimed on Twitter that if he died from suicide, it wasn’t by his own hand, signifying someone who wanted to survive and was actively defending himself. That warrants serious consideration,” he added.

McAfee was detained in October 2020 at Barcelona’s international airport and remained incarcerated as he awaited a court’s ruling on his extradition to the U.S. to face allegations of evading over $4 million in taxes. Tennessee prosecutors were pursuing a potential sentence of up to 30 years.

Just hours after his extradition was sanctioned, he was discovered deceased in his cell.

“They placed him in a secluded prison far removed from any major city where they didn’t even speak Spanish,” commented one of McAfee’s lawyers, Nishay Sanan.

“I believe this was intentional.”

McAfee’s CEO, Jimmy Watson, expressed disbelief at the news of McAfee’s arrest, recalling the terrifying moments that followed.

“When John McAfee was arrested and detained in Spain, I knew my time was running out as the CEO of the company,” Watson recounted. “As I walked to my car, the FBI arrived with the Dallas SWAT team, overwhelming me with force… guns drawn, I was taken into custody.”

“They told me, ‘Jimmy, you don’t know what we know about John, or you would understand. He’s a real threat.’ Hearing that made me realize there was a side to John McAfee I had been unaware of.”

McAfee contended that the federal charges against him were politically driven and claimed he would serve his life sentence if he returned to the U.S. He was a third-place Libertarian presidential candidate in 2016.

The unconventional cryptocurrency advocate and tax critic had a lengthy history of legal issues spanning the U.S., Central America, and the Caribbean.

His fortune exceeded $100 million until his investments’ values collapsed in the 2008 financial crisis.
