He’ll be aiming to redeem that penalty with a swift round, hoping for a better standing in case of a tie on four penalties.
He clears the last jump, finishing with a time of 81.23s—respectable, but unlikely to earn a medal.
Brash and Jefferson settle for fourth place but will depart Paris proudly after securing a gold in the team event.
Here comes Brash…
Brash and Jefferson, already gold medalists in the team event, need to clear the jumps for a chance at another gold.
They incurred four penalties at the same spot as Ben Maher!
Only TWO clear rounds in the showjumping
The individual jumping has certainly kept us on our toes this morning.
There was one rider who fell, while another maintained composure after a close call. Only two out of 18 competitors made it through clean.
A jump-off will determine the result between Maikel van der Vleuten from the Netherlands and Christian Kukuk from Germany, as tied results aren’t permitted, with Scott Brash due to compete shortly.
Laugher back in action at the diving venue
Meanwhile, in diving, Jack Laugher returns to compete after bagging bronze in the synchronized 3m springboard event.
This time, he’s in the 3m individual springboard preliminary round—no medals on offer just yet—and Laugher is performing solo this time. Well, sort of.
Joining him in the pool is Jordan Houlden, making an impressive entrance with his athleticism and acrobatics.
Thus far, the duo is performing well, trailing only behind Wang Zongyuan and Siyi Xie.
Laugher snagged silver in this event in Rio, so he’s hoping for more hardware to bring home from Paris.
Team GB off to a strong start in athletics
There’s also excitement from British athletes at the Stade de France, where the first heats of the women’s 1500m are underway.
Both Laura Muir and Georgia Bell have progressed to the semi-finals, while Revee Walcott-Nolan is in the repechage after placing eighth in her heat.
Muir and Bell advanced having finished second in their heats, marking a promising beginning to the 1500m after Keely Hodgkinson’s victory the previous night.
