Team USA achieved a remarkable feat not seen in 112 years—having two medalists in the men’s 1,500-meter race at the Olympics.
Cole Hocker and Yared Nuguse overtook Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Great Britain’s Josh Kerr in the race’s closing moments. Hocker discovered a gap and surged past Ingebrigtsen and Kerr, securing first place. Meanwhile, Nuguse also passed Ingebrigtsen to clinch third.

Hocker finished with a time of 3:27.65, taking home the gold medal and setting an Olympic record. Nuguse achieved his personal best at 3:27.80. Ingebrigtsen, the defending Olympic champion, did not finish in the top three.
This marks Hocker’s first Olympic medal. Earlier that year, he secured a silver in the 1,500 at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
It’s also a first Olympic medal for Nuguse, who won silver in the 3,000-meter event at the World Indoor Championships earlier this year.
