Conor McGregor reacted strongly to former US President Donald Trump declaring his Russian rival Khabib Nurmagomedov as his top fighter.

During a live stream with Adin Ross, Trump praised the undefeated Hall of Famer from Dagestan, asserting that Nurmagomedov ‘never lost a round’ and highlighted his dominant performance over McGregor at UFC’s biggest pay-per-view event in 2018.

In response, the Irish fighter took to social media, deriding Trump’s statement as a ‘campaign-ending’ comment, and didn’t shy away from slandering his former opponent.

McGregor posted, ‘Campaign ending decision. A smelly fat mountain monkey from the inbred mountains of Dagestan is your favorite UFC (American Company) fighter?’

‘Wow. Abysmal,’ he added.

Nurmagomedov retired with an immaculate 29-0 MMA record, including eight knockouts and 11 submissions.

After his submission of McGregor at UFC 299, the Dagestani fighter defeated both Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje in his final fight. He retired following a promise to his mother not to fight again after the death of his father, Abdulmanap, during the pandemic.

Trump mentioned, ‘I think Khabib,’ when asked who his favorite fighter was. ‘How impressive is he? Khabib went 29-0. After his father passed, he stopped. And he has never lost a round.’

Additionally, Trump recounted meeting the former UFC lightweight champion in New Jersey and how Nurmagomedov urged him to intervene in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Trump recounted, ‘I met him two fights ago. I met Khabib there, and he was very… you know he [said]: ‘You’re the man that can stop [the war],’ referring to the Ukraine-Russia conflict. He knows that many are suffering.

‘He was truly remarkable. We discussed a different style of conflict—a far more dire conflict. He expressed concern: ‘You can stop this,’ and I can help,’ he said.

The feud between McGregor and Nurmagomedov extended beyond their battles in the Octagon. McGregor’s attacks on Nurmagomedov’s nation and beliefs were coupled with incidents like when he hurled a metal cart at a bus containing Nurmagomedov and other fighters.

This resulted in the injury of several competitors due to the shattered glass.

After securing a submission victory over McGregor, Nurmagomedov notoriously leaped out of the Octagon to confront McGregor’s team, igniting a brawl.

McGregor had previously commended Trump after the latter’s failed assassination attempt in July, stating: ‘A 78-year-old billionaire should be enjoying life on a yacht, not facing bullets! Running for the love of his country! Godspeed, Donald! God bless America.’
