Jamie-Lynn Sigler shared the harrowing experience of her 10-year-old son’s “nightmare” stay in the ICU, which ultimately led to an autoimmune disorder diagnosis.

The television actress revealed that her son has been diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM).

“Four weeks ago, what seemed like just a regular virus for our son turned into a nightmare,” Sigler posted on Instagram Tuesday. “Beau has been diagnosed with what we believe to be ADEM. It has been incredibly difficult, and I’ve never felt more shattered…”

ADEM is a rare neurological immune response sometimes triggered in children after a seemingly minor virus. “They likened it to being struck by lightning,” Sigler mentioned on “MeSsy with Christina Applegate & Jamie-Lynn Sigler,” highlighting the rarity of this condition.

Leading up to the diagnosis, her son hadn’t been feeling well. At one point, Beau experienced a fever of 105 degrees, prompting Sigler’s husband to rush him to the hospital as he complained of severe head pain. Over the next few days, Sigler’s son visited the ER three times but was sent home after being evaluated.

After securing an appointment with an infectious disease specialist, Sigler recalled taking Beau to the ER for a fourth time.

“During the drive [to the infectious disease doctor], he was screaming in pain—the kind of cry no mother should ever have to hear from her child,” she recounted, deciding to divert to the ER instead.

The doctors advised her to keep the appointment with the infectious disease specialist first. However, as soon as they arrived at the office, they were sent straight to the ER where Beau was subsequently admitted to the ICU.

“Thank you to everyone, you know who you are. I will never be able to repay you for the support and care you’ve given us.”

While in the ICU, Beau lost his ability to speak, and at one point, he was unable to move his legs.

“This has been the darkest, most challenging, and utterly heartbreaking experience of my life,” she shared. “Just when we would receive a glimmer of good news, another setback would hit.”

Beau remains hospitalized and is expected to stay for at least another month, according to the “Sopranos” actress.

Though Beau is no longer in the ICU, Sigler revealed he is still facing psychosis.

“Who is my child now? Will he return to us? What will our life look like?” she pondered.

We also recognize that whatever the future holds, we have an incredible support system surrounding us, and we’ll be okay.”

“Thank you to everyone, you know who you are. I can’t ever repay you for the way you’ve supported us. And to my husband Cutter, your patience and strength throughout this ordeal have been unmatched. To our other son Jack, despite being just six years old, the way you’ve stepped up to look after your brother during each hospital visit highlights the beauty in this life.”
