Who is the governor? Which senator?
The frontrunners to join Vice President Harris on the Democratic presidential ticket include Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. If these names sound new to you, you’re not alone—most Americans are unfamiliar with the Democrats in line for the vice presidency, according to a recent NPR/PBS News Marist poll.
The poll reveals that Kelly enjoys the highest favorability rating among the three candidates seeking the second-in-command position at the White House, with 31% favorability compared to 18% unfavorability. However, a significant 52% of respondents are still uncertain or have never heard of him.
Shapiro, who is rumored to be leading the vice presidential race, particularly since Harris will be appearing with him in Philadelphia for the first time, has a favorability rating of 25%-23%. Yet, a notable 53% of Americans remain unsure.

In the case of Walz, he is seen as the progressive favorite, but remains the least recognized of the candidates; 71% of those surveyed say they are unsure or have not heard of him.
On the other hand, Harris has seen an uptick in her favorability ratings, now sitting at 46-48% as favorable versus unfavorable, compared to 40-44% in the previous Marist poll.
Conversely, the Republican nominee, former President Trump, is primarily viewed unfavorably by 53% of respondents, while 44% maintain a positive view of the GOP candidate. Trump’s unfavorable rating has increased by four points since the last Marist poll, taken right after the Republican National Convention and an assassination attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The survey involved 1,613 adults and was conducted from Thursday through Sunday, with a margin of error of +/- 3.3 percentage points. Participants were reached through cellphone, landline, or online panels in both English and Spanish.

Harris plans to announce her choice at a rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening.
This marks Harris’ first visit to Pennsylvania as the presumed Democratic nominee for president after securing the nomination on Monday. This visit is also her seventh to the state this year and the 17th since she took office as vice president in 2021.
Kelly, Shapiro, and Walz are the top contenders for the vice presidency following a swift vetting process instituted after President Biden’s surprising exit from the 2024 race, endorsing Harris to take his place.
Over the weekend, Harris was in Washington, D.C., conducting in-person interviews with her potential running mates, as confirmed by Democratic sources to Fox News. Other candidates still being considered include Governors Andy Beshear of Kentucky, JB Pritzker of Illinois, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
IT’S OFFICIAL: VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS SECURES THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz addresses the media following the tragic deaths of two police officers and a first responder on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, in Burnsville, Minn. Initially viewed as a dark horse, he has now become the progressive favorite for Harris’ running mate.
Before meeting with the candidates, Harris received a briefing from a vetting team that included former Attorney General Eric Holder.
Details of the announcement rollout remain unclear, but it could be delivered through a video introduction akin to how Biden revealed Harris as his running mate four years ago. However, plans for the Harris campaign could potentially change due to a media leak on Monday or Tuesday.
Following the rally in Philadelphia, Harris and her soon-to-be-named running mate will embark on an extensive tour across pivotal swing states including Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Arizona, and Nevada—critical regions likely to influence the presidential election outcome.
