Noah Lyles, hailed as the fastest man on the planet, along with his girlfriend Junelle Bromfield, shared that their relationship did not start with an immediate spark.
During a recent joint interview, the Team USA gold medalist and Jamaican track star reflected on their clumsy first date.
In a recently resurfaced segment from the ‘Fast Lane Lifestyle’ podcast, they revealed the reasons why their initial encounter in 2018 was less than perfect.
“We went on our first date, and it was like, ‘Nah, let’s just be friends,’” Bromfield recalled, explaining how she flew to Miami from Jamaica just to meet her future partner.
Lyles added, “I picked her up in my car, feeling excited… I had my all-white Beamer at the time. I picked her up from the airport and it was completely silent.”

Noah Lyles and his girlfriend Junelle Bromfield said their romance wasn’t love at first sight

They went on their first date in 2018, but decided to remain friends until reconnecting in 2022
“There were no words exchanged, just silence,” he continued.
Bromfield admitted to feeling a bit anxious during their initial date.
“I tend to talk a lot, but I need to feel comfortable before I start chatting, and it was just one day,” she shared, to which Lyles joked, “A little? I barely heard a whisper.”
He went on to share, “I took her out to Red Lobster and introduced her to cheddar bay biscuits for the very first time. I made sure she had a good meal.”
Despite the dinner, they just felt they did not connect and opted to stay friends.
Years later, they reconnected one evening during the Running Grand, and everything changed.

They eventually confirmed their relationship in 2022 and recently celebrated their second anniversary.
Lyles previously shared with Us Weekly that he and Bromfield train together, with her having lived with his family in the United States.
Their love story has gained attention following Lyles’ gold medal victory in the 100m sprint at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
After winning the fiercely competitive race, which he completed in 9.79 seconds, he rushed to embrace Bromfield.
Lyles narrowly secured his win against Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, who won silver, with fellow American Fred Kerley taking third place.
