Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes II’s father is proudly marking six months of sobriety.

Former Major League relief pitcher Pat Mahomes Sr. shared the news on Instagram shortly after being arrested in Texas for driving with a suspended license. He is currently awaiting trial for a drunk-driving charge related to his previous arrest in the same Texas county on February 3.

‘I want to express my gratitude to my God, my wife, family, and friends for 6 months on the sunny side of the road,’ Mahomes Sr. posted on Instagram. ‘I know meeting sober Pat has been challenging, but it’s a worthwhile journey.’

In his post, he also acknowledged his wife, Patrick II’s stepmother: ‘Trisha Mahomes, thank you for all that you do.’

Interestingly, the Instagram post showed a picture where Mahomes Sr.’s head was cropped out of frame, and it included baseball great Pete Rose.

Mahomes Sr.’s DWI trial is scheduled to commence in Smith County, Texas, on August 12.

He was officially indicted on DWI charges on March 28, according to court records. The charge is classified as ‘Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More.’

He could face a potential 10-year prison sentence alongside a fine of up to $10,000.

On February 3, he was arrested by the Tyler (Texas) police, marking at least his third arrest related to drunk driving.

In 2019, he served a 40-day jail sentence following a DUI charge.

Patrick Mahomes II, while in Las Vegas ahead of his second consecutive Super Bowl victory, declined to address his father’s arrest with reporters.

‘This is a family matter, so I will keep it within the family,’ Mahomes stated during Super Bowl opening night. ‘That’s all I am going to say.’

Following the charges, Mahomes Sr. was arrested last month for driving on a suspended license in Smith County and received a warning for running traffic signals, hinting at a possible moving violation.

As a divorced father of four, Mahomes Sr. posted a 5.34 ERA over 11 seasons in the MLB, primarily as a relief pitcher.

His son, Mahomes II, shares a similar love for baseball, having excelled as a star in high school in Texas, alongside being a minority owner of the Kansas City Royals.

Additionally, Mahomes II’s godfather is LaTroy Hawkins, a former teammate of his father’s on the Minnesota Twins.
