The international reach of FIU football is expanding. On Tuesday, the university revealed the renaming of its football field to Pitbull Stadium.

The renowned 43-year-old musician has agreed to pay the university $1.2 million annually for five years for the stadium’s naming rights, as reported by ESPN.

Pitbull will compose an anthem for the university, share posts about FIU on social media 12 times each year, and make an appearance at one athletics fundraising event annually, according to the agreement details mentioned by ESPN.

The Miami-born artist will also have access to the stadium for 10 days each year during the contract period. His vodka brand will be the exclusive brand sold in the stadium.

Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Perez, will receive two reserved suites for all home football games.

Inaugurated in 1995, the stadium has a capacity of 20,000 spectators. It was initially named FIU Community Stadium from 1995 to 2001. Ocean Bank was the first to buy the naming rights, known as Ocean Bank Field at FIU Stadium from 2001 until 2017.

From 2017 to 2022, it was referred to as Ricardo Silva Stadium. In the last two years, it operated without a sponsor as FIU Stadium while searching for a new branding partner.

The agreement includes an option for Pitbull to extend the deal for an additional five years.

The Panthers are coming off two consecutive 4-8 seasons under head coach Mike MacIntyre and have not achieved a winning record since 2018.
